Shadow blade 5e7/2/2023 So, "intended" in the sense that they re-wrote the rule differently and realized it would have that effect. I guess my Clintonian comment is "it depends what the definition of 'intended' is." It sounds like they knew that the booming/green-flame blade change would mean that they would no longer work with shadow blade. So you take attack action, attack with SB, than BB with other weapon, this triggers the requirement for dual wielding offhand attack so you offhand swing your SB. Even if the DM is a stickler about BB not usable with SB there is a workaround once you hit 6th level by dual wielding a normal/magic weapon with SB. Especially when paired with EA DPR is very high. no thanks.įor flavor, the other thing you can do is summon a fey or something and have it stand behind you like a 'stand' whacking people while you duel on the front line.SB is good because of the easy advantage. Haste is pretty inefficient and has dreadful consequences if you fail concentration, and requires an action to cast so overall. Surround yourself with chilly ghosts, get a flametongue, and bring the iceyhot pain! It's a third level spell, sure, but it scales just as well with upcasting and can be used with magic weapons and booming blade. 2d8/3d8 damage just isn't that much for the cost of concentration and the duration in question, and you can't use it with booming blade because of the requirements for the material component of shadow blade (DM might allow it but eh). Shadow Blade isn't very good for a bladesinger anyway, DarknessEternal is right about this.
